Course Description
The American Heart Association Pediatric Advance Life Support course is based on science evidence newly defined in 2010. The goal of the PALS course is to aid the pediatric healthcare professonal in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manager critically ill infants and children, resulting in improved outcomes. Skills taught include recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest; the systematic approach to pediatric assessment; effective respiratory management; defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion; intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
Part One is completed on your own from the course DVD with the assistance of the provided manual and an additional CD with notes, charts and Power Point presentations. Our PALS instructor is a phone call away for support during this step.
Part Two is the very important skills verifications process, which can only be performed by an American Heart Association instructor trained in PALS. You will be asked to demonstrate skills competency in all learning stations, including passing the CPR and AED skills test, bag valve mask ventilation skills test, a Megacode test and a written test. Upon successful completion, students will receive a PALS course completion card valid for two years.
